Your Whiskey Resolutions

Who says that resolutions need to be dry? If you’ve committed to upping your whiskey game in 2024, this one’s for you.

So, Where To Start?

Sometimes, making small changes to the way you sip can completely change your drinking experience. While all whiskeys start life as a selection of grains, each step of the process involves choices made by the distiller which shapes the profile in unique ways. From our BLACKENED Original and Cask Strength to our Masters of Whiskey Series, each spirit is different and how you drink it is the key to unlocking the nuances and notes that could otherwise go unnoticed. So for 2024, we’re taking a step back and savoring every damn quality that whiskey has to offer.

Step One: Ice or No Ice?

The age-old question remains, ice or no ice? In short, BLACKENED Master Distiller & Blender Rob Dietrich wants you to remember the most important message of all when it comes to your drinking decisions: “You do you.” Learn what kind of ice is best for whiskey, the science behind ice in whiskey, and it’s history.

Step Two: Cocktails and Mixers

We already know that there’s no right or wrong way to drink whiskey. Whether you like your serves long and refreshing or short and stirred, we’ve got a recipe for you.

With hints of honey, cinnamon, allspice, clove and mint, lengthening BLACKENED with a mixer can highlight different notes, showing you how versatile the spirit can be.

If cocktails are more your speed, there’s more to whiskey drinks than stirred down and brown. From classic cocktails like the New York Sour to modern remixes like the Cold Fashioned, you’re bound to find the one right for your palate in our BLACKENED Cocktails.

Step Three: Glassware

Take it from a team who knows a thing or two about putting on a show; presentation is key. How you serve your drink can make or break the experience. A staple for your glass cabinet is a rocks glass (also known as an Old Fashioned glass or whiskey tumbler). This wide-rimmed glass is versatile and suits a range of occasions; sipping neat, on the rocks, or a variety of cocktails.

If you’re a fan of a Manhattan or a Boulevardier, then you’ll know, no glass collection is complete with something short and stemmed; a martini, coupette or nick and nora glass.

For those looking for the best tasting experience, we suggest getting your hands on a tulip-shaped glass or a Glencairn whiskey glass. Slightly different in shape, both have bowl style bodies which are great for swirling whiskey to open up the spirit’s aromas, while the smaller rim concentrates the flavors for nosing.

And finally, the savior of a summer’s day: the highball. There’s a reason why whiskey soda remains an all-time favorite.

Step Four: Equipment

When serving up BLACKENED drinks, be sure to keep our bar accessories within reach. Stirring that whiskey and soda? You’ll need our BLACKENED Whiskey Bar Spoon. Shaking up something special? No worries, our BLACKENED Whiskey Boston Shaker can help with that. And finally, deck your home bar with our BLACKENED Bar Mat so the good times live on long after the drink has finished.

And there you have it – four steps to rocking your whiskey world and making the perfect drink at home.
